Why another candle calculator

Most wick charts online are a table with no source and no explanation. You cannot tell whether a number was measured, copied, or invented — and wick sizing is a fire safety matter, so that gap matters.

Three things are different here:

  • Every number is cited. Diameter ranges are transcribed from published supplier charts and linked. Where our sources do not publish a size, we say so instead of interpolating.
  • The reasoning is shown. You see why the result moved up or down from the chart position — the wax, the fragrance load, the dye — as separate, labelled steps.
  • We give you a shortlist, not an answer. Published guidance is a range, so the output is a range. The burn test picks the winner, and we walk you through it.

Where these numbers come from

CD, LX, HTP and zinc ranges are published against a paraffin baseline; ECO is published against soy. The engine converts between the two using the documented one-to-three-step soy offset, and both source datasets agree at the overlap.
